Topamax is the brand name of the drug called topiramate. This drug is being used for treating epilepsy and migraine. Being an anticonvulsant, topiramate is also used for treating certain other conditions like Lennux-Gastuant syndrome.
This drug can effectively control and prevent seizures in epileptic patients. Rather than treating migraine headaches, this drug is used for preventing such headaches. Though, it is not so effective in reducing migraine headaches, topamax may prove useful for reducing the frequency of migraine attacks.

Such birth defects may include cleft lip, cleft palate, etc. Even genital defects like hypospadias may be found in babies who are exposed to this drug, during the fetal stage.
