Period Delayed but the Pregnancy Test Negative

Sometimes there is a possibility that the body just behaves abnormally and it leads to a late or missed period. If the periods are normal the next month, then there isn't a reason to worry. However, if it happens every month, then the question arises, 'why is my period late every month?' Scroll down to find an answer.

One of the most common reasons for a late period these days is stress. Therefore, you will have to assess it yourself whether you are really stressed. If the answer is yes, then you will have to take measures to eliminate it. Once this stress has been eliminated, you will see that your menstrual cycle has come back to normal.

Hormonal Imbalance
Hormonal imbalance is one of the most common causes of a late period. It is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which often leads to a hormonal imbalance, which causes a missed or late period. On the other hand, PCOS can cause excessive bleeding, which is the other extreme reaction by the body.

Unhealthy Diet
Most women these days are obsessed with their weight. So that they do not pile on weight, they follow different fad diets. These diets are not balanced and healthy, which leads to undernourishment. This condition further leads to amenorrhea (missed period) or late period. Same is the condition if the woman has any kind of eating disorders.

If you have had a child recently and are breastfeeding, then it is common to miss periods. However, it does not mean that ovulation does not take place. If appropriate care is not taken, pregnancy is possible even in such cases.

If you are on any sort of medication, then you have found the reason for your problem. Medication like oral, injected or implanted contraceptives, oral steroids, chemotherapy drugs, antidepressants, etc. may cause the periods to be late.

Often women lack time in their daily schedule to spare for an exercise routine. Lack of exercises can also cause a problem and lead to a delayed period. On the other hand, there are other women who have rigorous workout routines, which may cause late or missed periods.

Thyroid Problem
Thyroid problems are often the cause of this condition. If any symptoms of a thyroid disease are observed, then you may want to get yourself checked. There are many women who are affected by thyroid problems, which causes a delayed or missed period.

Weight Issues
Being either underweight or overweight is not good for health. Therefore, if any of the two defines you, then you will have to take measures to rectify the problem. Although women prefer to remain thin, it can give rise to serious health issues. Apart from this, obesity also leads to many health problems which may have an adverse effect on your periods.

If you realize that your periods are irregular, then you should get yourself checked from your health care professional to find out the exact reason of the problem. Remember a healthy diet and regular exercise is the key to good health.
